Only Lovers Left Alive is an excellent vampire drama, instead of focusing on the horror aspect of the sub-genre it deals with what it would be like to live forever, having seen and done everything and watched the world change around you until it barely resembles one that you're familiar with. Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton are great in this, their relationship is the core of the movie.
Hiddleston plays an immortal recluse and suicidal musician who is very similar to Kurt Cobain and Swinton is the other side of the coin, a complete optimist who enjoys the dark gift of vampirism and embraces all life has to offer, they play off of each other really well and are very endearing.
Although comparisons could be made to interview with a vampire, it's a different kind of vampire movie and that's one of its strongest points. You rarely actually see any violence, instead its a look at the day to day or rather night to night lives of the two leads. How they acquire blood, their interests and how they interact with the world around them.
I really enjoyed it.
