Boys From County Hell is very reminiscent of Shaun Of The Dead,
although it is really funny in parts it belongs in the vampire sub-genre more than it does in the horror comedy section, as with Shaun Of The Dead with Zombies, this is first and foremost a really enjoyable vampire movie with comedic elements.
The comedy is derived from typically Irish characters finding themselves up against an unstoppable vampire. Although the creature is shown sparingly throughout the practical effects designed by Neill Gorton (the effects artist known most notably for Hellraiser 2 and Nightbreed) are great. The vampires design reminded me a little of Neil Marshall's Werewolves in Dog Soldiers with the vampire having a tall and wiry frame.
One thing I really enjoyed was that it created it's own unique vampire lore and had fun with the idea that ordinary people's perception of what a vampires weaknesses would be are solely the product of stories and in actuality if a creature like this existed,
the rules we are so accustom to wouldn't necessarily apply.
My only criticism is that it could have benefitted from a slightly longer third act but that's really nit-picking.
I can easily recommend this,
It's a lot of fun.
