Night Of The Hunted

Night Of The Hunted is a tight isolated thriller that is gripping throughout its runtime but bogged down only slightly by its overly leftist messaging. The set up is simple but effective, after having an affair on her husband and stopping at a gas station a woman is being hunted by a sniper, is the shooter her lover out for revenge, a crazed Q-anon lunatic or just someone looking to kill anyone for the thrill of it?.

I really enjoyed the film and was able to let go any of its issues because the villain was so damn entertaining, he reminded me a little of Roger Jackson in Scream, as most of his interactions with the protagonist are him taunting her via walky talky.

The protagonist is also quite good, I like that they made an effort to make her honestly quite unlikable, she's a flawed human being and not a hero by any stretch of the imagination, in fact at some points I believe the audience is meant to feel that maybe she had this all coming.

In terms of its heavy handed social commentary, any film that goes out of its way to depict right wingers as gun crazed lunatics is a bit weak to me, sure that happens, but that coupled with some lines of clunky dialogue about how its the protagonists choice if she has a child or not, literally stating "its my body" was all a bit much, i get it, you're woke.

My feelings towards the film ironically reminded me of the extremely right wing exploitation film, Run Hide Fight, a film i enjoyed a lot, but couldn't help but think it would have been better without all the bloody political pandering.

Still, its worth a watch.
