Backcountry is supposed to be about a couple that are hunted down by a black bear when they get lost in the American wilderness, but that's really only the last fifteen minutes of the movie, the rest of it is devoted to showing us that the leads boyfriend really deserves to get eaten by a fucking bear.
I don't get it, why purposefully make someone such an unlikeable character in this type of film, I'm supposed to be feeling anxious that the two survive , however when the bear attacked all I could think was, "well, at least now you don't have to go out with that dick anymore, he deserves what's coming to him". I was rooting for the bear the whole movie. This guy insults the locals, acts like he knows the entire forest like the back of his hand only to get lost and then pretends to know where he's going, walking straight into bear country, leaving both himself and his girlfriend in jeopardy, the whole scenario is literally his fault.
The most enjoyment I got from this movie was listening to him scream like a bitch while getting eaten. the rest, eh.
