The Unheard is a supernatural mystery thriller from director Jeffery A. Brown, starring Lachlan Watson and is about a girl named Chloe who regains her hearing after losing it as a child from meningitis, but as her hearing returns she begins to hear mysterious voices throughout her house, trying to communicate with her.
The thing this film does really well is the in which it uses silence and noise to its advantage, the entire film is shown through Chloe's perspective, the first act is deafly quiet, there are touches of high pitched tinnitus sound effects, the world around her feels flat, lifeless, disconnected and dulled. Once her hearing returns this obviously shifts and the film purposefully assaults you with sound. It's a very clever way of telling her story and is really immersive if you watch it in the dark with headphones on.
The actual story itself is good, it's nothing special but its engaging and while the mystery itself is fairly predictable Lachlan Watson really gets you attached to Chloe, when things take a turn for the worse you really care about what happens to her.
I personally really enjoyed it,
more could have been done with the ending but for what it is,
it's definitely a good movie.
