Late Night With The Devil

Late Night With The Devil is a creative, oddball, cult movie that while I think it is an enjoyable ride, has been a little overrated by the horror community. The set up is that 1970's late night tv host Jack Delroy, played by David Dastmalchian, brings on a possessed girl in the hope of saving his television show's ratings.

The set up is unique and the way its played out is as if you're watching an old broadcast from the 1970's, it looks and feels like it belongs in that time period, as do the practical effects.

David Dastmalchian is a terrific character actor and he is the best part about the film. As for the movie itself, it has charm for sure, its engaging, but it felt a bit lacking to me in the end, not to say its not a good film, it is, but you have to put it in the context of the praise its received, its enjoyable but not much else. I needed more out of it than an interesting premise and a cool 1970's aesthetic, the horror element wasn't there.

It's really a film about a man who's sold his soul to the devil that is the entertainment industry and it is definitely good, but don't believe the hype.
