The Ruins is based on the book of the same name by author Scott Smith, as i haven't read the book i cannot comment on how accurate the film is, but what i can tell you is for a situational/body horror movie this is a unique one.
The premise is that five friends travel to visit Mayan ruins and for reasons i won't disclose are kept at the top of the temple by the locals, who have forced them up there at gunpoint. Why?, you'll have to watch the movie.
I like horror films that take chances and try something different and this movie definitely does that, its difficult to describe exactly what the antagonist of this film is and everyone who watches it i imagine will have a different opinion about what exactly inhabits The Ruins but its creative that's for sure.
The body horror is bleak, merciless and mean-spirited,
and that's just how i like it.
Check this movie out, its not the best thing you'll ever watch
but its a good time.
