Swallowed

Swallowed is a homoerotic body horror which starts off promising enough but then devolves into absolute nothingness for an hour and then it ends.

Look I'm open minded, i went into this movie knowing to some degree what i was getting myself into, it's a film that is made solely for a gay male audience and with that you have to expect a few things. Gratuitous male nudity, over emphasis on sex and sexuality and very little else. I'm not saying that to be nasty, its just what it is. I've got nothing against that stuff but clearly as a heterosexual male I'm not the audience for this movie, but you know, go in with an open mind.

So, it's not all terrible, the first act nearly had me all in, looking forward to the rest of the movie. It's about two friends who are forced to become drug traffickers for an evening when an associate makes them swallow a compound and take it to her dealer in exchange for a large sum of money. Only catch is, the drug might not be a drug after all. Really good set up, a cringe inducing idea.

But then its an hour of watching someone try and fish inside his friends arse to get the substance out and not much else happens. The only real positive i can think of is that Mark Patton from Elm Street 2 is in it as a really camp villain, which is the only part of the film i liked. It was a nice arc for his career, being as his character in Freddy's Revenge was a closeted homosexual and the film was made at a time when the world was less accepting and so it was nice to see him fully out and living his best life in this role.

Other than that though,
the film is absolute dogshit.
