The Battery shows that you can make a very competent film on an extremely restricted budget. Its quite amazing to think that this film that obviously few people have heard of or seen came out exactly one year before The Last Of Us, which it clearly inspired.
Seriously you can imagine Neil Druckmann deciding on the musical direction and overall tone of The Last Of Us from watching this film.
You can even view The Battery as cannon to the story, the world they inhabit is largely the same.
The film is focused on two friends as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. Both men cope with the situation in two completely separate ways, one an idealist who is desperately clinging to whatever small hope remains, in the delusion that one day things will change. The other is a realist, fully aware of their predicament and willing to survive at any cost. There's a lot of black humor in the movie but it never strays from its apocalyptic and hopeless tone.
It's a fun low-budget hidden gem that's well worth your time.
