All The Moons

All the moons is an arthouse vampire film about a little girl who is turned at the event of her death. It's a very slow paced meditation on what it means to be immortal and how an endless life would only lead to eternal suffering. I like quite a bit about this film and dislike a few things.

It is a beautiful looking movie, the cinematography, lighting and music all come together to give the film a moody, thoughtful atmosphere. I think the point it makes while not entirely original is brilliantly communicated especially at the end, it's very similar to a film called Byzantium, which covers the same themes but I greatly prefer for a number of reasons, the first being this films biggest issue.

The story in this movie while engaging does not have enough to it, there are opportunities where more could happen in the film to add to the drama and overall arc but they aren't taken and explored fully. I'm all for thoughtful meditative story telling but there is a lot of what could be classified as navel gazing here, that said, the ending is phenomenal.

Overall for the style of film it was going for it was very good,
but I can't rank it higher because I just don't see myself ever watching it again.
