I decided to watch The East solely because Brit Marling wrote the film and is the lead in it and after seeing her excellent performance in The Sound Of My Voice I thought I'd check out what other movies she's been in and I have to say I wasn't disappointed, this is an engaging indie thriller.
The film is about an operative for an intelligence firm who goes undercover with an anarchist group who's focus is to bring justice to corrupt corporations.
It was interesting watching the movie in light of what I'm studying in Conflict Psychology, being as the class has a lot to do with how social movements can end up using terrorism as a means to obtain their desired goals. The group in question begins with a genuine grievance but like many social movements, this grievance is then used to justify a lot of extremely antisocial behavior and soon things begin to spiral out of control.
I think its a very well acted film and covers the topic well.
plus i'm pretty certain i'm in love with Brit Marling so i'm happy to watch her in anything.
