There are a few movies which are made solely with Skype or Webcams, Profile is easily the best one, whereas most webcam based movies feel like they're solely made in this way due to the filmmakers budgetary constraints Profile uses this medium to its full potential and feels like this was a conscious decision to add to the viewers immersion in the plot.
Profile is based on the true story of an investigative journalist named Anna who created a fake profile with the intention of exploring Isis recruiting practices, specifically how Isis members effectively brainwash young western women into becoming jihadist wives .
We go on a journey with Anna played by Valene Kane as she converses with a high profile Isis recruiter named Bilel for a month. The film both humanises and shows the terrifying reality of Jihadist soldiers and isn't afraid to present their justifications and arguments for their hatred towards the western world.
Bilel played by Shazad Latif is disarmingly charming and charismatic, both characters are really well written and we understand their motivations perfectly, not a particularly easy thing to do when one of them is an Islamic terrorist.
It's a great exploration of the psychology behind cult indoctrination.
I'd definitely recommend it.
