Mind-Scape

Mind-Scape is a hidden gem, science fiction thriller with a surprisingly high profile cast for a movie few have seen. It takes place in a "five minutes from now" future setting where psychologists have created a means of observing peoples memories and we follow a clinician as he aims to treat a mentally ill girl with this unusual method of psychological exploration, but is she all she appears? and if you can view someones memories, can you trust what they're showing you?.

This film has a really cool premise and its pulled off well by all involved, who are all bigger names certainly than you would imagine to be attached to a film that barely anyone has seen. Mark Strong and Taissa Farmiga are at the core of the story and Farmiga is especially good here at projecting fragility while evoking suspicion in the audience. You want to look after her but at the same time you know that what you're seeing isn't the truth of who she is.

Without going into spoiler territory, i think the biggest criticism people would have for this film is that it shows its hand too early, you know where its going to go, you're not quite sure how its going to get there but you know the direction. It's telegraphed right from their first meeting, however, its still good, it's just not completely surprising but that's ok, the movie works.

Overall I enjoyed it and while i don't see myself watching it again i think its a solid sci/fi thriller for a one time watch.
