The Brave One starring Jodi Foster is essentially Death Wish with a female lead. Its pretty good, Foster as always delivers a great performance as the emotionally distraught victim turned vigilante.
Her performance is well worth watching the film for, even when the movie becomes a little unbelievable its her performance that grounds it.Terrance Howard is also good as Foster's friend, the police detective who is also investigating the murders she is committing.
The worst thing you could say about the film is that there are many like it, but honestly, if you want a straight forward revenge movie, this is a somber and artful one, with dramatic moments that definitely land. Neil Jordan is a great director and he handles the topic with a lot of restraint, its not a needlessly gory or violent film, its more of a character drama set within the revenge genre and its definitely worth a one time watch.
