Dead Man's Shoes is a low-budget gritty UK revenge thriller from director Shane Meadows, and starring Paddy Considine as the lead, Richard, an ex paratrooper who goes in search of the people who brutally psychological tortured his autistic younger brother. It has a blue collar quality to it and is so naturally acted you feel like you're watching real people, as if it is a crime that actually occurred and you're along for the ride watching the aftermath.
One thing that sets this film apart from other British crime thrillers is its dramatic and artistic use of music, ranging from almost western acoustic guitar pieces and choral music.
Richard's tactics for dealing with his brothers abusers are also really unique for this kind of film, he treats the attack like a mission, using psychological warfare as his primary weapon, dressed in a gas mask and a boiler suit. It's a mournful, darkly comedic and intense film that far exceeds the quality of its budget.
