I went into Harpoon with little to no expectations as I read that it was a horror comedy a sub-genre which I'm usually not a massive fan of, however after watching it I have to say I really enjoyed it, though I'd be reticent to describe it as a comedy as I feel that would be somewhat misleading.
Its absurdly funny in places but its with a black macabre sense of humour and it knows just when to ramp up the tension and to cut back on the laughs, Harpoon uses its comedic moments to throw you off guard and at that its successful, it reminded me of the tone of something like Cory Finely's 2017 film Thoroughbreds.
The basic set up is that three friends who all just happen to be generally awful people who have harboured dark secrets from one another decide to take a day trip on a small yacht together, which is going as awfully as you may imagine until it takes a turn for the worse when the boats engine stops working, leaving them stranded in the middle of the ocean.
There were some pretty gripping moments and I liked it the more it went on, I'd recommend it, its worth a watch at least once,
nothing groundbreaking but it's fun.
