Incident In A Ghost Land is a very different type of home invasion film, in many ways it could be considered a companion piece to Pascal Laughier's previous film Martyrs. While Martyrs is about transcending pain by embracing it, Incident In A Ghost Land is essentially about trying to escape pain by denying it.
It's a simple story interestingly told, it has the same premise you've seen before countless times, a horrific serial killing duo enter a home and torture everyone inside. What is original about it is how it approaches its subject, which I won't go into in any real depth as it will ruin your experience of the film. What I will say is that it's more about what happens when a person experiences trauma that is so horrific, their entire sense of reality abandons them.
I've seen it twice and actually I enjoyed it much more the second time around, its twists and turns could be considered cliche but they really do work for the story its telling.
There's only two downsides, one being one of the villains I found to be far too generic, he's your typical slobbering mongoloid with the mind of a child, I hate villains like that, there's no character to them and they're just flat out boring. The other villain I found much more intimidating though admittedly they too were just as typical, a transvestite in the same vein as say Buffalo Bill.
Overall what works about the movie overrides its issues,
don't get me wrong, it's no Martyrs by any stretch of the imagination, it's not even close, but I enjoyed my time with it.
