Martyrs Lane

I went into Martyrs Lane with no expectations whatsoever and even though I don't rate it particularly highly i do think its a pretty decent little movie. It's a supernatural mystery revolving around a child who begins to be visited by a ghost that has ties to a tragedy in her life.
The story is fairly pedestrian but it has its moments, all of which center around the two girls. It also commits to a very solid ending, however the pacing leading up to it wasn't quite my tempo, I'm all for a slow-burn but slow-burn horror needs peaks and valleys to work effectively.

Slow-burns are all about the gradual building of tension to big climactic moments, but when it feels like these should happen in the film they just didn't match up to the images and ideas the film put in my head in the second act, however I think overall it does stick the landing. If you go into it knowing that its a film that was obviously made on a shoestring budget that hardly anyone has seen, I think you'll be surprised at how relatively decent it is. For what it is, its ok.
