Eden Lake might be easily dismissed by many as being "torture porn" but it is far from that, what Eden Lake is, is a breakneck paced disturbing look at generational abuse, group pressure and the depths of human malice. It is a phenomenal film, but one that isn't for the faint-hearted.
It is a brutal, violent, nasty film that appears to be inspired largely by two things, the first being the new french extremity movement as it follows the same nihilistic, thought provoking and down right vicious approach to horror cinema that the french started in the mid 2000's and the exploitation films of the late 70's, like I spit on your grave and honestly its an extremely artful take on this style of film.
Its orchestral score is as impactful as the violence depicted on screen,
and the cinematography is striking and at times beautiful. The acting from everyone is spectacular, Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender are heartbreaking to watch as the doomed couple preyed upon by a group of merciless teenagers, led by Jack O'Connell, who brings a realistic terror as the teenage psychopath Brett.
Overall I strongly recommend this film to people who enjoy unbelievably dark movies, it is fantastic.
