VFW is a really great B-movie starring Stephen Lang. There are a few movies which try to mimic the grindhouse action movies from the 80's but this may be the only one that if you told me it was made then I would believe you. Everything from its grainy VHS style filter to its cast of misfits, cheesy punk rock villains and gritty violence make it sit right at home next to something like The Warriors. It deserves to be a cult classic and if It came out then I have no doubt that it would be.
The story is about a group of Vietnam veterans who are gathered in their friend Fred's bar to celebrate his birthday, when a young girl enters in a desperate attempt to escape a gang of crazed drug addicts, resulting in an all out war between the old soldiers and a horde of lunatics.
I have one complaint about the movie but its a minor one considering how much I enjoyed it, I don't like shaky cam during action sequences and there were a few scenes where the camera was noticeably all over the place, that said it didn't ruin my experience of the movie at all. It's a really fun movie, if you like The Warriors or Hobo With A Shotgun you will love this.
