Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri is a story of broken people trying to make sense of the hand life dealt them and in turn destroying the lives of everyone they meet.
The movie is reminiscent of the Cohen brothers, it has that same dark comedic touch that is present in movies like Fargo and Barton Fink and the overall tone of the film reminds me of somber Americana country music, which features prominently on the films soundtrack, its a tragic tale of misfortune, misadventure and catastrophe, but beautifully put together.
The performances from its entire cast are outstanding with each role being fully fleshed out, much like real life there are no villains in the movie and there no heroes, only people trying to make sense of the world around them and stumbling blindly into each other with disastrous consequences.
Francis Mcdormand absolutely deserved the oscar she was awarded for her role in the film, but Sam Rockwell and in particular Woody Harrelson are also brilliant in it.
Its a revenge film that subverts all expectations,
and brilliantly plays with the genre by delivering something truly unique and original and manages to be as darkly funny as it is tragic and touching.
