Dear Zachary is the most shocking, heartbreaking and well made documentary I've ever seen.
I won't give away too much because it's important that you view it with as little information on the story as possible.
The film begins with the documentarian telling a man's infant son the story of his fathers life and death after he was murdered, It is an incredibly personal film as the narrator is a close friend of the subject the story is about, its clear that this is a passion project and not a movie to be enjoyed.
As the events unfold in real time the focus of the documentary changes and it becomes about something much more disturbing and in part life affirming than anything you have ever seen.
One the one hand it presents the viewer with a situation that is so beyond comprehension that it is nothing short of soul destroying,
on the other it shows the extreme resilience and selfless determination human beings are capable of.
Honestly I've never been affected by a documentary like this before because there simply isn't one like it.
I highly recommend you check it out
but be prepared,
It is a tough, tough watch.
