Smile

The first time i watched Smile when it released in cinema I didn't care for it, but perhaps that was because the audience in my screening was talking throughout the whole damn film, sometimes the audience makes or breaks your enjoyment of a movie and upon reflection, rewatching Smile I think its a pretty good movie.

I think Sosie Bacon does a very good job as the lead, a psychiatrist who witnesses a patient commit suicide and becomes haunted by a demonic entity as a result. Her performance sells the whole movie and give it an added depth when compared with other run of the mill horror films like it.

I do however still think the film played it safe and was never as violent and horrific as it could have been. I think the premise is intriguing, there's a mix of good practical effects, however one really over the top design still didn't work for me this time around, the demon at one point literally looks like Marilyn Manson. The film still has an uneven message about mental illness that it all but abandons at the end, but with all that said, Its enjoyable and well put together.

I have to say i really enjoyed it this time around.
Its a fun throwback to the investigative horror of the mid-2000's, think the ring and you're halfway there. If you liked that , chances are you'll like this.
