Pyewacket is such an underrated hidden gem of a movie. The premise is that a teenage girl who is into the occult uses black magic to curse her grieving mother after an argument. The sense of dread in this movie is palpable and its use of subtle scares is expertly done.
Like all good horror films the horror comes from watching awful things happen to people you're made to care about and a lot of time is devoted to making you feel for the two leads, especially the daughter who in a moment of madness made a mistake that can never be undone. Realistic characterisation is a huge strength the movie has all round, even with its side characters in the little time we spend with them.
It's one of those movies I wish more people would see.
