300

300 is Zach Snyder's extremely faithful adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. I think it has a lot of strengths and is definitely Zach Snyder's best film. I think it has a distinct style, a lot of this is due to its washed out color palette of white and gold that suits the film perfectly. Its a cross between a hyper violent graphic novel and a typical sword and sandals movie. Its basically Jason and The Argonauts on crack. It is iconic and over the top, but I also don't think its one of the best films ever made, or the best film about this time period. That goes to Gladiator.

There aren't many too many negatives but as much as i credit the art style, I think I just don't like Zach Snyder as a director, the slow motion works in some places and is overused in others. I think now that I'm more familiar with Snyder's work when i notice something that's typical of his directorial style I find myself rolling my eyes a little, he is obsessed with slow motion and he thinks his films are far more important than they are. I think that's my minor issue with 300, you can tell Snyder thinks its Gladiator and it just isn't.

Its a fun movie though for sure, I love the imagery, Snyder captured the look of the comic down to a T and don't get me wrong its very entertaining, but I don't think its a genre defining classic or anything.
