The Medium is a Thai horror film from writer/director Banjong Pisanthanakun, director of the vastly superior "Shutter" and honestly due to how good that film is I expect far better from him than this.
I think the only thing worse than a bad film is a bad film that had the potential to be good.
While it is abysmally slow and boring for the most part, it is redeemed by ten minutes of extremely creepy imagery (its up there with some of my favourite moments in Shutter) however that's not nearly enough for me to recommend it when there are much, much better films out there.
I'll give you the basic outline for the plot, its your standard demonic possession fare but with Taiwanese ceremonies and traditions, the aspects that are somewhat innovative aren't successful and just fall flat.
Another issue with The Medium is that it cannot decide if it wants to be a found footage film or not. it begins as a mockumentary about Taiwanese shamanism but unlike other found footage films we aren't introduced to the cast behind the camera until about an hour and a half in, certain shots also don't feel like they're organically being filmed by someone who is watching the events in front of them take place, its a little baffling, its as if the director couldn't make up his mind as to what storytelling ahem Medium he wanted to use.
Overall, I think you can guess that I don't recommend
The Medium.
