The Loved Ones

The Loved Ones is essentially an Australian take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a bit of House Of 1000 Corpses thrown in.
its strange that director Sean Byrne has only made two major length horror films, both showing real promise as a director and yet he hasn't made a movie since 2015's The Devil's Candy, which is a better Amityville Horror film than the actual movie itself, while The Loved Ones isn't as good as The Devil's Candy, its one of the better "Torture Porn" films out there.

The premise is that a troubled teenager named Brent is kidnapped by a girl after he refuses to take her to prom, she then proceeds to torture the absolute shit out of him. Robin Mcleavy is great as psycho killer princess, she has a Harley Quinn like quality to her, a sort of manic innocence mixed with being completely out of control, she's the main draw of the movie for sure.

The rest plays out as you'd expect and gets progressively wilder as the film goes on, it's very Rob Zombie in that respect.

The only mild negative is that I do think it has an unnecessary side plot that adds little to the story,  but its not egregious enough of an offense to detract from the film, i understand what they were going for, showing a normal teenage night at the prom to juxtapose what is very much not a normal teenage prom at Princesses house, but It doesn't amount to much.

Overall though its an enjoyable film if you like this kind of thing.
