Saltburn

Saltburn is a drama thriller about a scholarship student (played by Barry Keoghan) at Oxford who befriends another boy from a privileged background and becomes enmeshed with his family when he stays at their house for six months over the summer break.

While there are a few movies i can compare the twists and turns of Saltburn to, predominately Park-Chan-Wook's 2013 thriller "Stoker"
it does have a few tricks of its own and obviously I'm not going to go into them here, all I will say is that it takes a turn from being a coming of age drama/satire of the upper class and becomes something else and it does it quite expertly.

Keoghan is very good as the lead, again i can't go into why as that's spoiler territory but his performance made me excited to see him as The Joker in Matt Reeves's new Batman trilogy. He knows how to convincingly play disturbed characters.

The movie isn't without its flaws, I think it could have been shortened by about ten minutes. But other than that the acting from everyone involved is impeccable and they're all given time to shine in certain scenes.

The film itself is reminiscent of the disturbed family dramas found in Shakespeare or Edgar Allan Poe's works and the overall tone reminded me a lot of Mike Flanagan's adaptation of The Fall Of The House Of Usher, particularly the Prospero episode.

I think its a solid drama/thriller
that's worth checking out for sure.
