Excision is an unusual black comedy which follows the daily life of a mentally ill and psychotic teenager named Pauline. It's an inversion of your typical coming of age story as it essentially deals with the same themes, teenage angst, sexual exploration, bullying and unsupportive parents.
The film is told through Pauline's eyes and she is as weird a character as you could follow but you're drawn to her, twisted as she may be she's not a bad person, underneath all her insanity is a well intent girl.
Misunderstood characters resonate with me and I think Pauline is one. I don't think you have to be a terrible person to do terrible things, I think often, all it takes is a lack of support when someone desperately needs it for them to fall from the edge of sanity. And that's what this film is, its an examination of the feverish and manic thoughts and behavior's of a very sick girl, but done so in a way that its actually pretty funny at times.
