Proxy (2013)

Proxy starts off really quite strong but within an hour becomes a melodramatic mess with terrible acting, laughably cliche dialogue, a cheesy violin orchestral score which plays over every scene, ridiculous character motivations and god awful editing.

The only redeeming quality this film has is its first hour, especially its opening scene. A young pregnant woman is heading home after a visit to the doctors when she is assaulted by a lunatic in a red hood who knocks her unconscious and relentlessly beats her pregnant stomach with a brick. Even in writing, the concept of that is just horrendous but hey, it takes some balls to put a scene that dark in a movie. The problem is, is that if you're going to add something as viscerally disturbing as that you better make sure you're doing it for a good reason and not just cheap shock value, which is all it amounts to in the end.

The acting from the lead in the first hour is actually quite good then as soon as the second hour begins everything goes to shit, literally every actor in the film that we get introduced to seems like they'd be more at home in a movie made for lifetime tv.

The editing is awful and nonsensical at times, things are shown that don't make any logical sense and are explained hap hazardously later on as if the scene was filmed and then the script was written to try and make sense of it. There is an odd use of slow motion during what are supposed to be climatic moments but because they shown at a snails pace the facial contortions of the cast look hilarious.

This film is dogshit and it can get in the sea.
