End Of Watch is a semi-realistic take on the life of a police officer in downtown Los Angeles. It's rare that a film shows the daily routine of blue collar law enforcement officers and I think End Of Watch perhaps does it better than any other movie. its use of the found footage format is very effective and adds a certain believability to the film.
The central performances are all strong and natural, I've yet to see a bad performance from Jake Gyllenhaal in anything and Michael Pena is also very good as his costar, the relationship between the two police officers is the core of them and you do buy into it and care about what happens to them.
It's interesting to see a movie that takes a positive view of American police, definitely not something that will likely happen again anytime soon.
