House Of The Devil is writer/director TI West's homage to 1970's horror and in many ways is a tribute to Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby".
I think the thing that works the most about House Of The Devil is that it absolutely achieves looking like a late 70's horror movie, every aspect of the movie oozes that aesthetic. The close up camera pans, the pacing, the grainy film quality, the costumes and decor of the house. Honestly if i got you to watch this movie and told you it was some random movie from that decade that no one had ever heard of, you'd believe me, it's so close that's its not so much a throwback as it is a time-capsule of horror during that period.
The film itself is pretty good, its a straight forward, "Babysitter takes a job at the wrong house", movie. If you like mean spirited slow-burn occult movies this is for you. I'm a big TI West fan, he's one of the best things happening in horror at the moment for sure and Hose of The Devil is clearly a love letter to the genre by someone who clearly understands what its all about.
