Dragged Across Concrete

Dragged Across Concrete starring Mel Gibson and directed by S.Craig Zahler, man responsible for the really enjoyable Brawl in Cell Block 99, is a pretty good slow-burn Neo-noir crime thriller.

The plot for the most part is centred around two disgraced detectives who have been laid off for aggressive conduct and in a desperate attempt to make a huge amount of money decide to stakeout and rob some heavy hitting criminals.

There's loads to like about this movie, the violence is realistic and unexpectedly aggressive. At points the film is pretty unpredictable with how it will treat characters and what their fate will be.

The only problems with it is that its too long for its own good, the build up to the ending takes a very, very long time and while the acting is perfectly serviceable nothing stands out about any of the characters particularly and the dialogue at times feels written and not in that good Quintin Tarantino way. It feels a bit forced but it's not a huge issue.

The payoff really makes the movie and it is excellent, Dragged Across Concrete is by far Mel Gibson's best film for years
and I can definitely add it to my monthly recommendations.
