Sting

Sting is a giant spider science fiction horror film that had promise, but didn't fully deliver in the end. It hints at a much darker and more compelling story but ends up taking a very generic route.

The impression I got from the first half of the film was that it was essentially going to be Glen Morgan's"Willard" except with a giant spider in it instead of Rodents. The premise literally sets this up, as the film appears to revolving around the relationship between the lead character Charlotte (an obvious nod to the E.B White story) and the titular spider from space, Sting. But then this is never fully explored and her entire character arc, which appeared to be going in a very dark direction suddenly stops and we get a generic rehash of every creature feature film you've ever seen. Its not a bad film, but its just pretty bog standard compared to what it could have been.

I really enjoyed Alyla Browne as Charlotte and I think if she was given the opportunity to do more in the film and have a darker character arc she had the acting chops to pull it off. Overall it was a missed opportunity but not a bad film.
