Isolation

Isolation is essentially what you get when you set John Carpenters "The Thing" on a farm. The premise is that a farmer discovers a mutation in one of his calfs and all horror ensues. This movie isn't without its merits, the atmosphere is really good, it is so reminiscent of the aforementioned Carpenter film and of Ridley Scott's original Alien and oddly it works with the setting when you really wouldn't expect it to.

The film itself is ok, the creature effects while effective in the first half when little is shown were a bit of a letdown towards the end and I was waiting for it to get more insane than it did, but the creature never feels like it evolves fully by the end. Sort of if the entire Alien film only showed the chestburster, it wouldn't work as well. I think if it showed the creature progressively changing it would have worked a bit more for me.

That said its a much better film than it had any reason to be.
