Spring (2014)

Spring is a strange film to describe as it blends a few different genres together but if I had to fit it into a category it's a Sci/Fi Romantic Drama, there are horror elements to be found here but they're few and far between.

The focus of the film is the relationship between its two leads, Evan and Louise, played by Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker.

The two meet after Evan travels to Italy to escape the grief of losing his mother to cancer, Louise is enigmatic, quirky, and charming but harbours a dark secret which threatens to transform their relationship.

There's a fair amount that I like about the film and a few things I found to be pretty underwhelming but overall its enjoyable and it worked for me in the end.

I think my issues were with the pacing of the plot and some of the character development, it drags somewhat in the middle and Evan isn't a particularly rounded or interesting character so when matched with Louise who is really captivating and essentially carries the entire film on her shoulders, he just seems a bit too vanilla.

He's serviceable but that's about it.

I really like the plot, which I won't go into in any detail,
but as is expected at this point with all of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead's films its pretty original, though it's nowhere near as good as The Endless or 2012's Resolution but its decent.

I think if you go into it expecting a horror film
or even a thriller you will be extremely disappointed,
but as a romantic drama,
it's quite good.
