Daredevil

Daredevil (2003), I have no idea why people hate this film and see it as an early 2000's reject and an embarrassment, it's really pretty good. There is so much more that works about it than doesn't. Of course the quality is nowhere near that of the TV show but the television series is the perfect embodiment of the character. This was a very good first effort.

Ben Affleck's a good choice for Matt Murdock and you can see why he was cast as Batman. He can pull off the brooding, haunted hero look well. I watched the director's cut this time around which is much more fleshed out than the theatrical release, it fixes a lot of problems with the film. Here Matt actually has a purpose, rather than the whole plot revolving around him wanting to get revenge for Elektra's death.

Elektra really is the only thing that doesn't hold up about the film. Jennifer Garner wasn't a good choice for Elektra and the films only clunky moments come from the scenes she shares with Matt Murdock.

Collin Farrell is ridiculous as Bullseye and he's chewing the scenery so hard in this film I imagine he was shitting pieces of the set out for weeks but he's so fun to watch it doesn't matter. Michael Clark Duncan is a decent Kingpin, even if he doesn't match up to Vincent Denofrio.

Overall even though the first half of the film is stronger than the second and third acts, its a good origin story that is frankly better than most of the marvel films out there. People need to give it another chance.
