Wolf Creek is essentially what would happen if Crocadile Dundee was a slasher villain. It is brutally dark, mean spirited and has a thin line of black comedy running throughout it. A lot of that down to the characterization of psychopath Mick Taylor, played by John Jarrett.
John Jarrett knows how to portray a psychopath, when his surface level friendly demeanor slips to reveal the sadistic and horrifying psychopath beneath he still retains the same level of charismatic charm that he employs when we are introduced to him and he is a lot of fun to watch, in fact I think because of his playful nature in the role it makes the film more palatable than say "I spit on your grave", because his actions in it are so severe it absolutely falls into that category of shock, exploitation horror.
I like that the film devotes a lot of time to his victims,
approximately half of the film is spent getting to know the group who tragically encounter Mick Taylor while hiking in Australia's outback. They're shown to be decent likeable people, and more importantly, they do everything they can to survive, however, sometimes even that isn't enough.
Mick Taylor is a force of nature and Wolf Creek is a very strong film for movies within this sub-genre,
check it out for sure.
